Higley District to offer SAT exam for young, accelerated students
Higley Unified School District will offer the SAT test on Dec. 1 at Higley High. While this test is open to all students, this specific opportunity is designed to give young, accelerated students a chance to better prepare for future college entrance exams. Spaces are limited.
Information about the SAT for families of younger students will be available during a meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Williams Field High School in room 199.
In addition, a representative of John Hopkins University will offer an informational meeting about its young talent program, which is available to sixth- to ninth-grade students who receive a qualifying score on the SAT. High-scoring young students will be honored during a ceremony Feb. 12.
To register for the SAT exam, visit the College Board website to create an account. Registration deadline: Nov. 2. Cost: $47.50. Optional essay portion: $17. The essay portion is not required for the talent search program and is not recommended for middle school students.

Mental Health Community Awareness Events
Information about community events that address a number of mental health and mental wellness topics, including suicide prevention, coping with stress, depression and anxiety, is now available online.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to research information about each program to determine the best fit for their family audience. The page will be updated as other events become available.
Outside of reporting your child's absence to our attendance line, the responsibility of make-up work due to an absence remains the responsibility of the student. As we prepare our Spartan students for high school, our campus emphasizes the importance of staying on track and being proactive. Outlined in the student syllabus, missed work can be found by logging into EDMODO and reviewing documents. Parents are welcome to notify an instructor of an absence; however, due to the volume of individual requests regarding missed homework, parents will be encouraged to communicate with their child the classroom policy for missing work.
In an effort to be considerate of costs, students interested in purchasing a 2018-2019 yearbook are encouraged to visit the following site to place their order. Current cost for a yearbook is $35 with all outstanding fees, iPad, and textbooks required to be returned to the media center prior to distribution. The Sossaman Middle School code to purchase is 16449.
Higley Unified School District launched an App this spring as a tool for communication with Higley families. The new system will allow schools to send e-mails, as well as push notifications for those who download the app. In order to receive e-mail communication, families must have a current, up-to-date e-mail address on file with their schools. Families that do not have an updated e-mail with the schools may not receive all the communication being sent.
If you have changed your e-mail in the last few months, created a new e-mail or have not provided an e-mail to your school, please do so as quickly as possible. If your child is rolling up to a new school, your current information will transfer with your child.
If you have not downloaded the App, we encourage you to do so. It can be found in your favorite App store.
All HUSD families should sign up for a ParentVue account. This allows parents to view student grades and absences, as well as see – when they are posted – class schedules and teacher information. The district also uses ParentVue during class selection times at the middle schools and high schools.
Sign up requires an IN PERSON visit to the school office. If you already have a ParentVue account, and your child is moving from one HUSD school to another, no action is required. The updated information will appear when it is available.
If you have questions, please contact your school's office.

As student safety is our first and foremost priority, we ask that you keep the following in mind: Please ensure you have state issued identification readily available when checking out a student. Students will not be released to those not listed in our system or fail to provide proper identification. Additionally, in the event you have a student late to campus, we ask that parents or guardians take the time to come on campus to sign your son and/or daughter in. This ensures you are aware of your child's whereabouts and student safety.
