  • Back to School Events

    Spartan Day is quickly approaching which begins the welcoming of the 2019 school year! We look forward to having students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning.  As each one of your children brings to school a unique set of gifts to share, we will continue to build upon and refine our foundation of high quality work and many worthwhile traditions, with none being more important than continuing to build upon our tradition of excellence in education.  Our motto?  Simply put:  Respect and Accountability, two essential elements for any successful situation.

    In preparation for our WEB orientation held on Tuesday, July 16th and Spartan Day on Wednesday, July 17th, the information below will outline available opportunities to familiarize yourself prior to visiting campus:

    WEB Orientation - Tuesday, July 16th
    Who: 7th Graders who have RSVP’d
    Time: 9:00am until 1:30pm 
    Location: Gymnasium (signs will be posted)

    SPARTAN Day - Wednesday, July 17th
    Who: All Spartans Welcome *if you attend WEB it is not necessary to do both
    Time: Open House from 4:00pm until 7:00pm
    Location: Gymnasium (signs will be posted)

    Student Interested in Athletics?
    Athletic parent meeting for those who will have a student participating in athletics on Wednesday, July 17th at 3pm in the Training Room (Room 306 - signs available)

    Schedules: Please note that our Student Information System is built to schedule 8th grade students then 7th graders based off their initial course requests.  In the event your son or daughter was not placed in their first or second choice elective, scheduling was completed based off of alternate student selections. 

    iPads: While a technology based campus, Sossaman Middle School will not be utilizing one-to-one iPads for the 2019-2020 school year; therefore, the purchase of insurance will not be an incurred cost to families this year. We encourage parents to attend your respective administration presentation for further details.

    Tours: Families attending our Spartan Day will be able to participate in a student driven tour provided by our Student Council members. We encourage students new to the Sossaman campus to take advantage of walking their schedule to familiarize themselves with classroom locations.

    ParentVue: Parents needing to activate their ParentVue account to retrieve grades, attendance, and communicate with instructors throughout the year will have the opportunity to collect further information.  If you have already activated an account from a previous elementary school, no additional requirements are necessary.

    Principal Presentation: A brief presentation will be given by Mr. Dolan in the student union (adjacent to the gymnasium) at 9:00am on Tuesday and 5:30pm on Wednesday.  A review of our lunch schedule, drop off and pick up procedures, and additional pertinent school information will be provided. There will be a short Q&A session available as well.

    Athletics: Tryouts for quarter one sports begin Tuesday, July 23rd for cheer, and Wednesday, July 24th for flag football, baseball, and girls volleyball.  For the safety of your student, we require all students be cleared through our administrative office prior to tryouts. In an effort to streamline our process, Sossaman Middle School has partnered with Register My Athlete where forms and information will be collected electronically.  Please visit our athletics webpage to ensure your student has completed all the requirements prior to tryouts. Mr. Keeling will make himself readily available to answer and assist parents struggling with athletic clearance. 

    School Supplies: In an attempt to alleviate backpack weight, our school supplies will consist of the following:

    • 4 one-subject college ruled notebooks
    • 4 one-subject college ruled composition notebooks
    • 6 folders - 2 pocket with prongs
    • Pens, Pencils, glue sticks, 2 colored highlighters for Close Reading activities
    * Additional materials may be requested from instructors

    In the event you are unable to attend our Spartan Day, schedules will be available online through ParentVue/StudentVue beginning Wednesday, July 17th at approximately 5pm.  No early schedules will be distributed as they will simply not be ready.

  • Save The Date

    In partnership with Higley Unified School District, Sossaman Middle School is excited to share its implementation of the WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) program. This year-long transition will begin with an orientation and welcome for our incoming seventh grade students on Tuesday, July 16th. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, our goal is make new Spartans feel comfortable as they transition through their first year of middle school. We are proud to share a number of positive student role models and mentors are discovering and facilitating events focusing on both academic and social successes. More information to follow in regards to a detailed schedule for July 16th. For our incoming 7th graders, this will take place in lieu of our Spartan Days being held Wednesday, July 17th.

     


    Incoming 7th Grade Accelerated Placement Results

    Beginning next week, family members of our incoming seventh graders being recommended for advanced placement classes will be notified via email. Utilizing end-of-year CBAS testing as well as current AzMerit scores, the top ten percent who scored above assessment and reflected highly proficient in English Language Arts and/or Math will be placed in accelerated classes unless noted by a parent and/or guardian. 

     

    Please note our accelerated pathway is as follows:

    Accelerated English Language Arts

    Accelerated 7, Accelerate 8, Honors 9, Honors 10, Advanced Placement 11, Advanced Placement 12

     

    Accelerated Math

    Accelerated 7/8, Algebra, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, Honors Pre-Calculus, Advanced Placement Calculus or Advanced Placement Statistics

  • 2019-20 Back to School Information

    Classes begin July 22 for the next school year. Families can find back-to-school information, including event dates and school supply lists, on our new webpage. Additional details will be released over the summer. Be sure to download the Higley App for information and update your e-mail address with your campus.

  • ParentVue update for 2019/2020

    Teacher assignments and schedules for students in K-8 the 2019/2020 school year will be available on ParentVUE at 5 p.m. July 17.

    High school students will receive their class schedules during back-to-school events on their campuses. 

    If you are a family new to Higley Unified School District, you must visit your school office in person after July 8 to receive your ParentVUE log-in account information, which can be used only after the opening of ParentVUE.
