PayPal Recognizes Bridges Elementary Teacher for Her Hard Work During the Pandemic

Mrs. Shelton with her family

Lindsay Shelton, a fourth-grade teacher at Bridges Elementary, has gone above and beyond to support her students and help them grow. To recognize her efforts and her ability to connect with students during the pandemic, PayPal arranged a virtual surprise celebration.

The virtual celebration included a huge thank you sign in front of Bridges Elementary recognizing Mrs. Shelton, representation from PayPal via Zoom and a letter from a parent who nominated Mrs. Shelton.

“We are here on behalf of PayPal to thank you for all that you do,” said Ashley Ollie, a site Engagement Specialist at PayPal. “We started an initiative a few months ago to recognize local heroes. We know this last year has been crazy to say the least. We wanted to thank our teachers for all they’ve been doing to support our families and our communities during this pandemic.”

Employees at PayPal were asked to submit nominations and stories on why they thought their child’s teacher was the best teacher ever.

Ashley Weres, a parent at Bridges, submitted the nomination. In her nomination, she said that “despite facing enormous challenges this year, Mrs. Shelton has consistently found ways to help her students succeed. While this year has been incredibly stressful, knowing that Mrs. Shelton is in my son’s corner has made us both feel more comfortable and prepared to tackle each day’s challenges – for that, we will be forever grateful.”

“At Bridges Elementary School, our staff does an exemplary job of exuding an incredible level of professionalism, a focus on preparing for the future, and overall dedication to ensuring our students experience long-term success,” Jeff Beickel, Principal at Bridges Elementary said. “Mrs. Shelton demonstrates this mindset, and more, as she is consistently excellent in everything that she does. Our students and staff are beyond lucky to have such an extraordinary teacher to learn from, and as a result, I cannot think of someone more deserving of this award than Lindsay. Congratulations Mrs. Shelton. You are beyond impressive.”

Assistant Principal Todd Berg added that Mrs. Shelton goes above and beyond on a consistent basis to make sure that every student she interacts with is having their academic and social needs met. “I am so proud of not only the hard work that Mrs. Shelton is continually demonstrating but the entire Bridges staff, who is dedicated to provide every student with a meaningful and enjoyable school year as we work through this unprecedented time.”

Mrs. Shelton was surprised with an appearance from two of her children, who attend Bridges Elementary, and her husband, Jeff Shelton. According to her husband, Mrs. Shelton is the hardest working person he has ever known. “You couple that with the love of what she does, it’s a great combination.”

“It is just such an honor to be recognized for something that you just do every day and that you love,” Mrs. Shelton said. “All of us, my teammates, we work so hard every day for our kids. Thank you so much for acknowledging our hard work and for nominating me.”
