Bridges Trash Can Band Earns First Place at 2022 State WGAZ Championship
The Trash Can Band at Bridges Elementary earned the ranking of “superior” and first place at the 2022 State WGAZ Championship.
WGAZ is a non-profit organization in Arizona guiding the competitive development of winter guards, percussion ensembles, and wind ensembles. The organization hosted a championship event at Verrado High School in Buckeye on April 1,2022, that showcased ensembles from across the state of Arizona.
“I’m extremely proud of what these students have accomplished,” said Jeremy Brewer, K-6 Music, Choir and Trash Can Band Teacher at Bridges Elementary. “They impress me every rehearsal and performance with their hard work and effort – and it puts a smile on my face listening to them ‘jam.’”
Bridges Elementary’s Trash Can Band is a drumming group that meets once a week before school to rehearse. Mr. Brewer said that the group works on basic foundational drumming skills and techniques, and then applies those techniques to fun songs and beats that they learn and perform at competitions and school events.
