Kyle Curry, a 5th-grade teacher at Coronado Elementary, was named Higley Unified School District’s 2022 Teacher of the Year. Ms. Curry, who has been teaching within HUSD for eight years, was selected as the District’s Teacher of the Year during a reception, which took place on Thursday, April 28.
Ms. Curry was nominated by her principal, Jeff Armstrong, who described her as a teacher who exemplifies life-long learning and will do anything to enhance the learning that takes place in her classroom.
“Ms. Curry is a leader, student-focused, compassionate, demonstrates integrity, and is committed to doing her best for students and the school,” Mr. Armstrong said.
Ms. Curry is said to demonstrate “the characteristics of being student-focused and a leader.” During the year, Ms. Curry served as Principal of the Day and is always willing to take on extra duty when asked. She is known to collaborate with other teachers to enhance student achievement, both academically and emotionally.
According to Mr. Armstrong, Ms. Curry’s day-to-day work is completely evident in her students’ academic and social/emotional success. Daily, you will find Ms. Curry engaging with students in small group instruction, focusing on enrichment and intervention activities to enhance the learning process.
“Ms. Curry's impact is indescribable and only benefits all students and staff at Coronado Elementary,” Mr. Armstrong said.
