Two science educators have earned statewide recognition from the Arizona Science Teachers Association (ASTA) and will be formally honored at the ASTA annual conference on November 17. Kady Bonacci from Higley High School was named the 2025 High School Teacher of the Year, and Joanna Auclair from Higley Traditional Academy was named the 2025 Middle School Teacher of the Year.

ASTA honors educators who exemplify quality science instruction and inspire students through engaging, effective teaching. Each year, one teacher is selected from the elementary, middle or junior high, and high school levels, along with one novice teacher in their first three years of teaching.
Adding to the district’s reasons for celebration, Jennifer Huettl of Williams Field High School has received the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award from the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). The distinction honors exemplary educators whose passion and devotion inspire their students to grow and develop as scholars, leaders and citizens.

Huettl teaches band and orchestra at Williams Field High School and was nominated for her dedication and commitment to inspiring students. In the nomination, one student said, “She has made a huge impact on my life. She always encourages me to push myself and to take opportunities."
Their accomplishments remind us that great schools begin with great teachers. The district’s A-Rated status is built on the talent and tireless efforts of educators like Kady, Joanna, and Jennifer, who go above and beyond to ensure every student reaches their full potential. This directly reflects Strategic Anchor 2: Highly Effective Personnel in our district’s Strategic Plan, which focuses on recruiting, supporting, and celebrating educators who drive achievement, innovation, and community across our campuses.
