HUSD News Stories

Twenty-five years after the events of September 11, 2001, Higley Unified School District students and staff came together to remember the lives lost, honor those who responded and give back to their communities.

September 11 is recognized nationally as Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Across HUSD, schools are marking the anniversary through lessons, remembrance activities, ceremonies and service projects that give students opportunities to learn about the events of 9/11 and understand their lasting significance.

For today's K-12 students, September 11 is an event they know only through history. By creating opportunities for students to learn, reflect and serve, HUSD schools are helping ensure the stories and lessons of that day continue with a new generation.

Schools across the district recognized the anniversary in different ways:

  • Bridges Elementary School: Classroom lessons about the events of September 11

  • Centennial Elementary School: Students created artwork in honor of Patriot Day

  • Chaparral Elementary School: Schoolwide shoe drive to benefit House of Refuge

Although each campus recognized the day in its own way, HUSD students and staff share a common purpose: remembering those whose lives were lost, honoring the courage and service demonstrated in the aftermath, and carrying that spirit of service forward.
