HUSD News Stories

dozens of handmade get well cards

Higley Schools, Ariz.- Students from Higley High School and Williams Field High School in the Higley Unified School District show compassion and empathy through their actions in supporting an out-of-state officer recovering from an injury received in the line of duty.

On Oct. 27, 2025, officers from Belgrade Police Department in Montana responded to a disturbance call. During the call, an officer was shot. He is now recovering well at home with his family.

This officer’s niece is a criminal justice student at Higley High School, and she shared this information during class. Right away, her fellow criminal justice students went to work on handmade get-well cards to send to this officer all the way in Montana. The news then spread to the criminal justice program at Williams Field High School, and they did the same. HUSD criminal justice sent approximately 100 cards to fill the family’s home with positivity and love during a scary incident.

"The criminal justice program at HUSD just wants to thank the parents for raising such great students," said their teacher, John Hall.  "These students shared in their own way through these get-well cards, how they genuinely care about this officer and his family, even though they have never met him."

These students truly embodied the district’s Portrait of a Graduate and Core Values. Taking the initiative to show support for someone, no matter how far away, reflects a sense of community at the very heart of what it means to be a part of Higley.
