Local businesses, community partners, students and staff came together at Cooley Middle School for Higley Unified School District's (HUSD) Business and Community Partner Breakfast.

HUSD hosts the breakfast twice each school year to strengthen connections between schools and the local organizations that support students. Around 120 people attended the event, giving partners an opportunity to hear directly from students, learn what's happening across the district and discover new ways to support HUSD schools.

Student groups from Centennial Elementary and Sossaman Middle School took center stage to share programs making an impact on their campuses.

Centennial students presented their experience with School Participatory Budgeting, an initiative that gives students a voice in improving their school. Students develop proposals for campus improvements before the student body votes on which project to fund. Centennial students voted to purchase 3D printers and noise-reducing headphones for their campus.

Students from Sossaman Middle School shared their experience with Spartan Buddies, a club that creates opportunities for friendship and leadership for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students discussed the club and how it helps build connections among students on campus.

The breakfast also gave HUSD an opportunity to share ways businesses and community organizations can support students. These partnerships can extend learning beyond the classroom, introduce students to careers and connect schools with resources and experiences available throughout the community.

By bringing students and partners together, HUSD hopes attendees leave with a better understanding of how their involvement benefits students while also building new connections with schools and other organizations in the community.

HUSD thanks Tolin Mechanical, McGraw Hill, DLR Group, RWC Group, Ghaster Painting & Coating and Chartwells for sponsoring the event and all of the business and community partners who continue to support HUSD students.
