Higley High Student Kevin Chou

Higley High School student, Kevin Chou, is preparing for a spring concert featuring his original composition, after earning international recognition last year. His original musical composition, “Dragon Dance,” was inspired by his winter 2024 trip to China. The piece captures the vibrant energy of traditional Chinese festivals and daily life, blending cultural storytelling with Western instrumentation.

Kevin’s work was featured at the 2025 Evening Gala of the Global K–12 Education Research Association Annual Summit, held in Shijiazhuang, China. The summit welcomed 46 education leaders from 15 countries.

Kevin’s journey as a global learner began in Higley Unified School District’s Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, which offers students the opportunity to become bilingual and biliterate in Mandarin and English. This laid the foundation for Kevin’s cultural appreciation and language fluency—skills that continue to shape his academic and creative pursuits.

Locally, Kevin will perform “Dragon Dance” again at the upcoming Joint Chinese Exchange Concert hosted at Higley High School on February 11, 2026. The event will celebrate cross-cultural collaboration and showcase student talent from both Higley and visiting schools.

Kevin’s success is a powerful example of how Higley Unified School District combines language, culture, and creativity to create Limitless Opportunities.
