Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!
It is truly an honor to be the Principal of Chaparral Elementary School! I am excited to begin a new school year and look forward to students returning to campus as we begin our journey as a Leader In Me school.
For those of you new to Chaparral, I was born and raised in Aztec, New Mexico, and moved to Arizona in 2002. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Education Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master of Arts in Education Administration and Supervision. I hold endorsements in Early Childhood Education, Reading Specialist K-12, English as a Second Language, and Structured English Immersion. I have worked in education over the past 17 years as a classroom teacher, Curriculum Specialist, Language Support Specialist and an Administrator in both elementary and middle school capacities. This is my sixth year at Chaparral Elementary.
The administration and staff at Chaparral are committed to maintaining a focus on student learning. We strive to empower all students with knowledge and skills to be successful academically, as well as socially and emotionally.
This year we will be practicing our growth mindset as we venture into becoming a Leader In Me school! Leader in Me is Franklin Covey's whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. We will be developing a common language of leadership across our campus as our students learn about Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Communication with parents is essential for a successful school. In addition to our website, families may stay up-to-date with Chaparral news by downloading the Higley Schools App on your tablet or smart phone from your favorite App store.
It is exciting to be a part of such an amazing community and I look forward to continue building strong and positive relationships with the students, staff, and families of Chaparral.
