My name is Emily Perez. I am a graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education. In 2008 I did my student teaching at Fremont Junior High School in the Mesa Public School District. I was the recipient of ASU's College of Education's Student Teacher of the Year award for Secondary Education. ASU is where I discovered and developed my love for Fine Arts education. I have been teaching in the Higley Unified School District for over 10 years.
For over 15 years I have engaged students in art from ages 3-18 in venues at the Phoenix Zoo, Arizona Museum for Youth (now the IDEA Museum), San Tan Mountain Regional Park, and the City of Tempe. In 2013 I was awarded the Cooley Award by the Town of Gilbert for my significant contributions to an Arts program through Art Masterpiece at Centennial.
In 2018 I was selected to go to Hebei, China to participate in the Global K-12 Education Research Association Summer Camp experience where I taught 3rd and 6th grade Visual Arts in English for the Shijiazhuang Foreign Language Education Group. In 2019 I went to Italy where I got to see, touch, and be moved by art I had only seen in my textbooks in school; all experiences to be cherished forever!
