My name is Lawrence Martin and I began my career in education in 1995 with Mesa Public Schools at Powell Jr. High's Community School Program as part of the Corporation for National and Community Service under the AmeriCorps program. I managed an after-school tutoring program as a volunteer coordinator and math tutor. Upon completion of that program, I decided to make education my career. I was also serving in the Arizona Air National Guard in the 161st Air Refueling Wing.
After my military service and AmeriCorps, I attended ASU’s College of Education. While enrolled at ASU, I took classes in mathematics, science and education. I chose the elementary program and graduated Magna Cum Laude with my BAE in elementary education with an emphasis in math and science.
During the last 19 years, I have taken classes in college calculus, computer programming, statistics, and other mathematics courses to work toward a masters in applied math. I have earn the State of Arizona middle school math endorsement. I found that teaching and tutoring students in higher mathematics courses to be very enjoyable. I now work for Higley High as a Teacher In Residence enrolled in the Rio Salado College Post-bac program studying to be a Special Education Math Resource teacher.
