BA Journalism MA Elementary Education
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to another new school year! My name is Patrick McCarrell and I am very excited about the things we will learn about this year. As most of you know, I taught 4th grade last year, and am at least familiar with most of this year’s 5th grade students. That said I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you all so much better! I am looking forward to a new school year focusing on the single subject of language arts. I cannot wait to meet you all, and get started on this amazing path of education called 5th grade!
Most of you probably find it difficult to believe that this is the high school graduating class of 2027! I know I have a hard time wrapping my arms around this fact. My priority this year is to make certain each of the students in the class of ’27 from Power Ranch Elementary are the best they can be at the end of 2020.
I believe that there is no end to education. This is my fourth year of teaching, and I can say I have learned a great deal every year despite my advanced years! (Most of the kids know that I hunted dinosaurs for my dinner when I was their age.) J I am confident I will learn a great deal more this year as well.
I received my Master’s Degree in elementary education in 2016 from ASU. I earned my undergraduate degree in journalism in 1995. I have worked as a professional writer and editor so language arts comes naturally to me. I love reading and writing, and hope to instill this passion in my students. Aside from writing professionally, I have been a successful entrepreneur, and spent about 11 years traveling the world in the Air Force. I have an amazing supportive wife who has enabled me to follow this dream of teaching when many are firmly ensconced in successful professional careers. I have 5 children and 5 grandchildren, 3 dogs, and uncounted wildlife that roams my big backyard in Queen Creek.
Let me say once again how much I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child! I believe that communication between the teacher and parents is the key to a student’s success, and I encourage you to contact me or visit the classroom often!
