Dear Band Parents,
Welcome to the band program at GWP. The year is in full swing and is already off to a great start! The students have been working hard and have learned how to set up their instruments, how to properly clean and maintain their instruments, how to make a sound on their mouthpieces, as well as how to play the first few notes out of the Essential Elements book.
Students should be practicing at home regularly (at least 5 days a week for 15 minutes each time) and are expected to come to class prepared with their instrument and Essential Elements band book. Please make sure that your child is practicing their instrument with the correct posture as instructed in class and that they are reviewing what we work on each day so that they come back ready to review and progress through the book.
The schedule for band is: Monday- Full Band, Tuesday- Full Band, Wednesday - No Band, Thursday- Full Band, Friday- Full Band
A few important things:
- Please help make sure that your child is coming to band prepared on the days they have band with their supplies so that they are able to fully participate and maintain a grade of 4 for participation.
- Please return the band contract to me by this Friday. I am still missing several band contracts (the back page of the band handbook) - please get those returned ASAP. If you need another copy, please see my teacher website on the district site to access and print a new copy. The handbook includes all important information including concert dates.
- Music and Arts is still working on delivering the last few supplies. If you ordered something at the rental event back in July and have still not received your items, please send me an email so I can contact the Music and Arts store to get these final items to students.
- If your child is interested in taking private lessons, please send me an email and I will put you in contact with a lesson teacher! Private lessons are required for oboe, bassoon, and french horn, but are highly recommended for all other instruments.
Thank you all so much for your support and have a great rest of the week!
