    6th Grade Science

I am so excited to be your 6th Grade Science teacher! Throughout the year you will be learning about Life Science, including body systems, plants, and cells. Our Earth Science curriculum will have you exploring the interaction of Earth and its atmosphere. Finally, you will be learning all about energy and energy transfer in our Physical Science unit. Engineering and Design practices will be built into every unit so you will need to come to class prepared to work hard and have fun. Our year together will culminate with Science Camp in May where you will be challenged in new ways through team building and science explorations. My classroom is built on high expectations and you will all rise to the occasion as you prepare for middle school.

    About Me

This will be my 6th year at HTA. Most of you will know me as a 1st grade teacher but I actually started teaching at HTA as a 6th grade math teacher. I moved to 1st grade in 2014 and I am so excited to teach some of my former students again. I earned my degree in Criminal Justice from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and I was a legal professional for many years before discovering my passion for teaching. I received my post-baccalaureate teacher certification from Rio Salado College and strive to instill a love of learning in all students. I am very passionate about science and I hope you have as much fun learning it as I do teaching it!

My husband and I have been married for 25 years and we have two sons. Derek is starting his Freshman year at Grand Canyon University (Go Lopes!) and Dekker just turned four. I am a big soccer fan and I enjoy watching the national teams and the Colorado Rapids. In fact we love (almost) all Colorado sports teams - Nuggets, Rockies, and Avalanche - but the Broncos are second behind the Minnesota Vikings. ;) I am looking forward to getting to know all of you this year and I'm so happy to be your teacher!
