    About Me:
Hello and welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! My name is Ms. Jacqueline East and this is my third year teaching at Higley! I teach both 10th Grade English and AVID 9/10. I taught 7th Grade English in Glendale for a semester before realizing High School is my true passion. I was born in Plano, Texas and moved to Chandler when I was 7 years old. I graduated from Basha High School and received my Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Arizona University in Secondary English Education and my Master's from Grand Canyon University in Reading (Secondary) I have a beautiful brindle Boxer named Sophie, a lab mix named Rosco and a German Shepard mix named Barley. I love spending time with them outside or traveling. I also love to spend time with family and friends, snowboard, watch documentaries, read and learn new skills. I love my students and I am always here to help out! If you ever have any questions or concerns, or need anything, please feel free to contact me! Lets have a great year!
    Educational Philosophy:
It is my belief that, through education, individuals can learn essential skills that will allow them to build a successful life for themselves. Throughout education, students learn skills and tools that will allow them to apply what they have learned inside of the classroom to the real world around them. I also believe that students build upon themselves, as well as others, allowing them to grow and gain new knowledge of ideas and concepts that help them thrive throughout their career as endless learners. I believe that, as an educator, students should be able to learn in a safe, open, supportive and positive learning environment that allows them to develop their own opinions and thoughts as well as build positive and stable relationships among their peers and teacher.
Building thoughtful, positive, and supportive relationships is another strength I utilize not only through my teaching style but through my classroom management as well, which allows me to build trust with students. I believe that students should be treated as young adults and held to the same standards and expectations as their peers. By making an effort and supporting students inside and outside of the classroom, I can maintain the respect and commitment of my students to work hard and prosper throughout every goal they seek to achieve.
