Hello, I am Mrs. Palmer and I am very excited to be your Gifted Specialist for the 2018-2019 school year. I look forward to sharing some exciting adventures in learning with you through project-based learning experiments, advanced and accelerated mathematics and reading, coding, robotics, Math Olympiad, Passion Projects, Entrepreneurs Expo, and our annual Invention Convention.
I have been teaching and coaching for over twenty-three years in Chandler, Queen Creek, and Higley Unified School Districts. I currently hold graduate degrees in Psychology and Elementary Education with specialized certifications in Gifted Education, Physical Education, Reading, and Curriculum and Instruction. I also have extensive experience as a Math Coach and Department Lead, Reading Specialist and Title I Coordinator, DIBELS Testing Administer and Coordinator, and STEM/Robotics Instructor and Coach.
Services for gifted students are provided by grade level teachers who will differentiate instructional strategies to meet the specific needs of verbally, quantitatively, and non-verbally gifted students. Recent research in elementary education shows that the academic needs of gifted students are best met by highly qualified classroom teachers with the support of a gifted specialist. I will be working closely with gifted cluster teachers to ensure that they are making the necessary modifications in the curriculum to keep gifted students engaged and challenged. Students in graes 5th and 6th grades will also participate in a pullout program with other gifted students at their grade level for academic enrichment, acceleration, and social-emotional development time with me.
I believe that if you nurture a child as a unique individual, encourage them wholeheartedly, and motivate them with a passion for their success, they will flourish and their success will know no bounds.
It is my own personal philosophy that education is the most important aspect of our children's lives, and I will be an advocate for your child's educational well-being and success. Your child's education will remain my first priority and I’m sure it will be yours as well. I always have an open door policy for the parents of my students. Please, if you have any thoughts and/or concerns, let me know as soon as possible by email, phone, or a personal visit to my classroom. I manage my classrooms as I do my own life, with respect, love, and creativity. Your child will quickly get to know this about me as we begin to spend time together. I also believe that the greatest impact occurs when partnerships are formed between parent, student, and teacher. Together we can achieve our common goal ~ an incredibly positive  educational experience for your child that will last a lifetime!
My family and I enjoy living in Power Ranch, and I feel very fortunate to have my daughters attend such an exceptional district. I am honored to join such esteemed group of teachers at Coronado, in an effort to "Connect, Engage, and Inspire" the children of our community.
