My name is Cyndi Allen, the students call me Ms. Cyndi. I am a native of Arizona and both of my children and their families live here. I have 5 grandchildren, 4 girls and a boy, ages 7, 6, 5, 4 and 3. They all keep me busy and I love being with them!
I have been in the Higley Unified School District for fourteen years. In total, I have 35 years of teaching experience. Four in the first grade, one in cross categorical K-8, eight in Autism, two years at the District Level as a Teacher on Special Assignment and twenty years in Early Childhood Special Education. While in Mesa Public Schools, I developed and started a pilot program as a teacher of severely autistic preschoolers and ran it for 4 years. I received my undergrad from ASU in both Elementary and Special Education. I have also taken many additional hours, workshops and trainings.
I have 1 new instructional assistant this year, Jennier Gunnell. She started with us in April and will be returning in the fall. We are so happy. Heather Romney, who worked with me last year, is moving on to finish her education as a special education teacher. Yeah! Allison Chan who started with me in December will be back in our room this year. We are excited to continue working together. They are both excited to be here and we are looking forward to a wonderful year!
In my classroom, we not only work on academics but focus strongly on independence, behavior, social skills, and language. I feel strongly that the students need this to succeed. Students are included into general education activities as often as possible, when appropriate, for the levels they are at. Most will at least attend some specials which include Music, P.E., and Art, along with field trips and any special activities within the classes they attend specials with.
Special Education has always been where my heart is, and I look forward to working with your child this year!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions/information you may have.
Thank you and I look forward to a wonderful year with you!
