IMPORTANT ATHLETIC UPDATE:The East Valley Conference and Higley Unified School District have approved a plan to allow a return to play junior high athletics! We are very excited for this opportunity and to have the ability to provide amazing opportunities for our student athletes.The athleitc schedule has been condensed to allow us to play all four sports seasons during the remainder of the school year (details below).In an effot to keep our students and families safe, HUSD and AIA have approved a 1 year exception to physical clearance packets. If you were at student at SMS last year with AIA physical clearance paperwork on file, that paperwork will remain valid for this school year.SPARTAN ATHLETIC INFORMATIONEligibility and ClearanceIn an attempt to streamline the athletic clearance process, Sossaman Middle School has gone paperless. Using the enclosed instructions, you will now complete the athletic clearance packet electronically at Register My Athlete. All forms can be viewed and signed electronically, and additional required forms (i.e.-physical forms and concussion test results) can be uploaded to your account. Please follow the enclosed instructions to register your students for athletic clearance, for the 20-21 school year. It is strongly recommended that all documents be submitted electronically prior to the break that precedes your child's sport season (or prior to the school year beginning if participating in a first quarter sport).Only physicals completed on AIA athletic clearance page will be accepted. This form must also be signed by the examining medical provider. Physical Form B to be completed and signed by the examining medical provider. Students will not be allowed to tryout unless they complete the week of physical/heat aclimatiazation prior to the 19th.Q2 11/30/2020 - 2/3/2021 - Boys Basketball, Softball, Cross CountryQ3 2/8/2021 - 4/7/2021 - Girls Basketball, Boys Soccer, WrestlingQ4 4/12/2021 - 5/19/2021 - Girls Soccer, Boys Volleyball, Track and FieldPlease be aware, that due to increased safety protocols, practices/tryouts may run longer than anticipated.It is imperative that athletes are picked up immediately at the conclussion of practices as we do not want large groups of students in close proximity on campus.
IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION
Prior to the beginning of the athletic season, it is important to know what you and your athlete should expect as the season begins. Please take time to review the parent meeting power point (bottom-left tab on SMS athletics homepage) with your athlete. Once you have reviewed the presentation, please email Brandon.Keeling@husd.org with any questions or clarifications. Additionally, once your son or daughter has been extended a position on their respective team, the cost for participation is $100 per sport payable to HUSD #60. This fee is non-refundable. Please note, uniforms will not be issued until payment has been received in full.

QUARTER 1 ATHLETIC BANQUET
Our Quater 1 Athletic Banquet will be scheduled soon. Date, time and location may change depending on the start of the sports season.
In the past we have gathered all athletes and parents in the Student Union for this event. However, due to safety concerns and our desire to make a more personalized experience for atheltes teams will be meeting in designated locations around campus. Please keep an eye on school communication for location details closer to the event date.
