Welcome back to a new school year!
I was born and raised just outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I Graduated from Pennsylvania State University with my Bachelor's Degree for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. From there, I went to Graduate School at Bloomsburg University where I received my Master's Degree in Special Education.
This is currently my 19th year of teaching. I started my career as a Special Education teacher at Manassas Park Elementary in Manassas, Virginia where I worked with children in grades K-3. Then I decided I wanted a change of pace and transferred within my district to take a 5th grade position. During that time I also had the opportunity to coach softball on both the JV and Varsity softball team. However, we relocated to Arizona for a change in scenery and to leave the fast paced life that was outside the Washington DC area. We packed up the house in a pack-rat pod, filled the cars to the rim with what we needed along with our dog Barley and made the trip across the country to join the Higley family. We traveled for 4 days, just about 2,400 miles and have finally settled down in Gilbert. It was tough to say goodbye to Virginia, but I was very excited to be accepted in this district with the great staff at Higley Traditional Academy. After being a 3rd grade teacher for a year and 1/2, I moved to 1st grade. This will be my 4th year teaching 1st grade.
You may hear many stories about our dogs Barley and Hops as the year progresses. Barley is a 70 pound mutt and Hops is a 7 pound Yorkie mix. In addition to our dogs, we do have a little boy named Harry! He certainly adds much excitement to every day and there are always stories to tell! I look forward to a new and exciting school year and I hope you do too!
