• In many cases, the Media Center is the only quiet place on campus for students to do research, read, or simply relax in peace.  As a result, some students may be asked to leave if their behavior disrupts others.

Students must have a pass and sign in on the clipboard at the front counter during school hours (even during lunch), unless they are with a teacher.

If a student does not have a pass or the pass is not intended for the Media Center, he/she will be asked to leave.

For security reasons, released students or students with a pass may not leave without Media Center staff permission and/or a hall pass.

Media Center staff does not write passes for students to be tardy to class.

Black Hawk Period passes are written at the following times:

    7:00 - 7:15

    10:36 - 11:06   (for A lunch students only)

    11:39 - 12:09   (for B lunch students only)

    2:30 - 3:00

Students are limited to 2 Black Hawk Period visits per week.

NO gum, candy, food and drink (except bottled water with cap) are allowed.

These items may be left on the counter near the exit or they need to stay in a backpack until the student leaves.  If the items are out or if a student is consuming them, Media Center staff will either place those items on the counter near the exit or ask the student to leave.

Cell phone use is not permitted.

    Computer use:

    • Scheduled classes have priority use of computers. Individual students with passes may be asked to leave.
    • If a student is using the Internet for something other than a school assignment or reading the news, he/she is violating district policy and computer privileges will be suspended for that day.  If there is a second incident, computer privileges will be suspended for 1 month.  Prohibited sites include, but are not limited to:  videos, games, music, online shopping, chat rooms, forums, and email
    • Intentional viewing of highly offensive sites will result in administrative referral.

    Printing policy:

    • Only school-related documents may be printed.
    • Printing directly from the Internet is discouraged.  Why?  Almost without fail, printing directly from the Internet includes graphics, sidebars, and a final page with only the address on it, all of which are not needed.  Instead, highlight what is needed, choose copy, open Word and choose paste.
    • Students should do a print preview to see how many pages will be printed and plan to print only needed pages.  Up to 5 pages may be printed at no charge.

    Circulation policy:

    • Books are checked out for 3 weeks
    • Some reference books can be checked out after 2:30 p.m. and returned by 7:15 a.m. the next morning.
    • Students are responsible for all materials checked out in their name.  Do not check out books for other students.
    • If a student has an overdue book, he/she may not check out other books until the overdue book is returned or renewed.

    Overdue notices:

The due date is always stamped on the inside cover of a book.  This is the student's notice of when the book needs to be turned in or renewed in order to avoid fines.  (Students are responsible for returning books on time even if they do not receive a printed overdue notice.)

    Fines and fees:

Charges for overdue items are 10¢ per school day per book for standard checkouts and 50¢ per school day per book for special overnight checkouts.  Overdue fines are not charged on Literature Set books.  Books may be renewed if they are not being requested by another student.  Please see Media Center staff for details.

Students are charged for damaged or lost books.  To avoid being charged damage fees, students are asked to examine all library and Lit Set books for liquid damage; stains; cover damage; pen/pencil marks; torn, loose, or missing pages, etc. and to notify Media Center staff BEFORE checking them out.
