Mrs. Johannes

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

2023-2024

The Second-Grade team is thrilled to be a part of your child’s education this year! The information below is subject to change at any time. We will communicate the information as quickly as we can. It is our hope that the following information will help you and your child as we begin our year together!

ParentVUE

This is our MAIN communication platform in 2nd grade, so please make sure you are familiar with how to use ParentVUE. You will be able to view your student's grades, attendance information, weekly newsletter, and various communication through ParentVUE. I highly recommend downloading the app for your phone. Please log into your account and ensure we have your current and correct email address and phone number. If you are having problems logging into your account, please contact the front office.

Attendance

If your child is going to be absent, you need to log into ParentVUE and record the absence there. Previously, you would call the attendance hotline, but now we have moved this process to ParentVUE.

Breakfast & Lunch

We are no longer accepting cash in the lunchroom. Please add money to your child's account using the link below!

 https://LINQconnect.com or via the app

Behavior

To reach our goals, the class and I need a safe and orderly place to learn. You and I have the important responsibility to encourage and support your child. Our mutual desire is to help your child enjoy the good times and learn from the tough times.  As a Leader in Me Lighthouse school, we expect that your child uses the 8 Habits daily! We have a busy schedule, which shouldn’t leave much time for anything but good, hearty learning! A separate document will be given to you with more information on our daily expectations and routines!

Homework

San Tan is continuing with our Homework Policy. In 2nd grade, we recommend 15-20 minutes of nightly reading. Math will be sent home on an as-needed basis. Any unfinished classwork will be sent home for homework as well. This will always be communicated through email. We will also be starting a new phonics program this next school year, so weekly letters will be sent home with recommended practice as well. We will not be sending home a weekly spelling list. More information will be provided at curriculum night on how you can help your child prepare for their Friday spelling test each week!

Birthday Treats

If you would like your child to celebrate by sharing a treat with their classmates, please pick off the peanut free list! There is no fridge/freezer to store treats, so please plan to drop any frozen treats off shortly before our afternoon recess!

Leadership Notebooks

Every Wednesday is WIG Wednesday! Be prepared to look at your child's binder weekly, provide a reflection, and send it back the very next day. We use these daily and it's important that the notebook gets turned in the next day.

Snack Recess

Being that our lunch is earlier in the day, we will take time each afternoon for a quick break and snack time. Please try to send in a DAILY healthy snack with your child. We also have a morning recess on Wednesdays, so please still send a snack with your kiddo!

Transportation

If your child will be going home a different way than normal, you must send a note or email specifying the change of plans. In order to keep your child safe, I always need your permission before I can allow someone else to pick up your child. If you child needs a bus pass, please have a written permission note to the office no later than 9 am.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, participation, and time. I am really looking forward to a great school year! If you need to contact me, my email is:

Curriculum Night is coming in August. Stay tuned for dates and times.

Please try your best to be there! We go over LOTS of details and expectations for 2nd grade.
