My name is Jennifer Fraley, and I am the Visual Arts teacher at Higley H.S. I graduated with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later acquired a Post-Bach. Certification in K-12 Art, with an emphasis in Secondary Education. I have also taught art in a residential treatment facility for the emotionally handicapped.
I believe art education not only promotes growth in other academic areas, but, instills self-actualization, creative resourcefulness, and empowers students by giving them skills that can be used to enrich their lives no matter which path they choose. I hope to ignite inspiration, and appreciation for art in my students, not only in finished products, or “works,” but, for the artistic process itself.
There is art in everything and a form for everyone. I have seen many students, who have labeled themselves a “non-artist,” discover skills, and gratification in art-making.
