    Dear Cortina Families,

I am so excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year!

Being the principal at Cortina is truly an honored privilege. This school year will be my eighth year serving this amazing community! As principal, I bring with me 22 years of educational experience. In addition to being a principal, I have been a paraprofessional, a classroom teacher, an instructional coach, a dean, and an assistant principal. Working with children keeps me young-at-heart and inspires me to continue learning and challenging myself personally and professionally. I am an Arizona Native who enjoys traveling, running, gardening, playing the violin, checking out new places to eat, and spending time with friends and family.

I am proud to say that the teachers and staff at Cortina are the best in the state!  Our approach to working with you and your child will be based on collaboration and a commitment to ensuring individual student growth and success.  When students enter our doors, they will be loved, encouraged, and empowered to become active participants in appropriately rigorous and engaging learning experiences. As a staff, we maintain high expectations for our students and for ourselves.  We want our students to know that they are capable of doing “hard things” and can persevere through new challenges!  When students ultimately leave our doors, our goal is for them to be prepared with the essential knowledge and skills needed to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and inquisitive learners who demonstrate compassion and kindness, and who can make positive contributions to our world.

I have missed our students and the community and I look forward to seeing everyone again when we reopen our doors!  Let's get ready for an incredible year at Cortina!  Please feel free to contact me with any celebrations or concerns you may have. When we work collaboratively together, your child's educational experience will be enhanced.

    Sincerely,
    Kelly Papke
