The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce celebrates its Community of Excellence Awards each year, recognizing outstanding individuals from all over Gilbert, including the Higley Unified School District. The event began with a performance from Higley High School’s Chamber Choir and presentation from HUSD’s JROTC Color Guard.
Among the honorees was David Nuttall, a Video Production teacher at Higley High School, who received the Educator of the Year award for Secondary Education. With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Nuttall has been instrumental in shaping future journalists and broadcasters. His dedication to excellence and his ability to inspire students to surpass their own expectations have made a significant impact. His efforts extend beyond the classroom, as he supports fellow staff members and takes students to the National Journalism Conference, where they consistently earn commendations.
Adrienne Raleigh, a first-grade dual-language English teacher at San Tan Elementary, was honored as the Elementary Educator of the Year. Ms. Raleigh’s commitment to creating a supportive learning environment and fostering academic and social growth among her students is truly commendable. Her innovative use of technology to engage students and connect with families has set a new standard in education. By sharing her methods with colleagues, she has positively impacted the entire school community, ensuring that parents are actively involved in their children’s educational journey.
David Carter, a Maintenance Technician in the Maintenance & Construction Department, was recognized as the Support Staff Member of the Year. Mr. Carter’s dedication to maintaining school facilities and his ability to troubleshoot and solve problems efficiently have made him an invaluable asset to the district. His hard work and commitment to excellence ensure a safe and well-kept environment for students and staff, setting a standard that inspires others.
Brett Wamboldt, a parent volunteer at Cortina Elementary School, received the Volunteer of the Year award. As a member of the PTO Rad Dadz organization, Mr. Wamboldt has led numerous projects, including building and donating garden boxes for students. His efforts have not only enhanced the school environment but also supported local community initiatives. Mr. Wamboldt’s dedication and leadership exemplify the spirit of volunteerism, making a lasting impact on the school and community.
Two Williams Field High School students were also recognized for their participation in the Gilbert Community Engagement Task Force, receiving the Teen Hero Award for their willingness to step forward as community members and provide input on behalf of local teens. Bradyn Bredemann and Isabelle Brice received the award presented by the Gilbert Independent.
