Higley Unified School District (HUSD) is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of four dedicated teachers who have earned their National Board Certification (NBCT)—one of the most prestigious and rigorous professional certifications in education.

HUSD takes immense pride in having teachers who actively seek opportunities to grow professionally, not only to enhance their own teaching practices but also to create the best possible learning experiences for students. Michelle Bordonaro, National Board-Certified Teacher from Higley High School, expressed her thoughts on this journey.

“Pursuing National Board Certification is a challenging but rewarding journey that builds confidence and strengthens teaching effectiveness,” she said. “While the process requires deep reflection and intentional planning, the end result is worth it, as it enhances both professional growth and personal fulfillment.”

Teachers who undergo this process refine their instructional methods, adapt to the evolving needs of students, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning within their schools. Megan Spitler, National Board-Certified Teacher at Williams Field High School, shared her perspective on the impact it has on her methods.

“The National Board journey requires that you maintain your certificate every five years, showing that you’re continuing to pursue professional growth experiences and using them to impact student learning,” she said. “Education is ever-changing since students are ever-changing.”

By investing in their professional growth, these teachers exemplify the values of lifelong learning and educational excellence. This dedication ensures that HUSD students receive the highest quality education. More than 37 HUSD teachers have earned their National Board Certification. Their achievements reflect a steadfast commitment to academic excellence, aligning with HUSD’s Strategic Anchor of Highly Effective Personnel.
