Meal Charges

The District shall inform students and parents/guardians of the District's policy regarding charged meals via the District website.  A notice shall also be provided to all households at the beginning of each school year, along with information pertaining to the free and reduced-price meal program.

The District is to utilize an electronic system for recording deposits made into a student's meal account and for deducting the cost when the student is served a meal.  When the balance remaining in a participating student's account reaches an amount equivalent to the cost for five (5) lunch meals, a notice is to be presented to the student advising that the account needs to be replenished as only prepayment for four (4) lunch meals remains.  The notice is to be repeated until the account is replenished. This notice can be in the form of a verbal reminder, written, telephonic and/or an electronic notice.

Once the student's lunch meal account has been depleted, the student is to be granted additional full meals regardless of the balance on the account, letting the charges accumulate in arrears.  

When the account reaches two (2) lunch meals with payment in arrears, a designated member of either the school staff and/or the District Finance Department will contact the student's parent(s)/guardian(s) to determine an appropriate resolution of the circumstance.  The student's parent(s)/guardian(s) will be provided additional application materials for the reduced-price and free meal program. This contact will continue until the balance is paid in full. The District may use the services of a collection agency when contact by District staff does not result in replenishment of the account.

Upon replenishment of the account, all meals in arrears will be deducted from the deposit to bring the account current. 

The District may charge a $5 fee for replacement ID Cards used for computerized meal accounting systems and other school purposes.
