Higley Unified School District
English Learners
EL Program
The State of Arizona has chosen to implement research-based SEI Models of Instruction. In Higley Unified, we offer the Pull-Out model at each campus and the 50-50 DLI model for elementary EL students who are also enrolled in one of our two DLI programs. Each of these models requires targeted and integrated instruction by a SEI-endorsed teacher. Student academic instructional support is based on their individual level of language acquisition, focusing on the ELP standards. The Arizona SEI Models are anchored by a language development approach. For more information, please visit the following link.
Our EL students are closely monitored through formative and summative assessments as well as the AZELLA which is administered each year. The goal of the EL program is to increase English Language Proficiency of all EL students in grades K-12.
