2021 - 2022 Adoptions

During the 2021-22 school year, HUSD completed the adoption of instructional materials for K-12 Science. The details below outline the steps that were undertaken during the phases of the adoption process.

2021-2022 Adoptions

Resource material adoptions are proposed based on several factors including changes to state standards and budgetary considerations. Final selection or development of resources culminates with a recommendation to the HUSD School Board prior to implementation.

The Science Adoption materials that are being considered for Phase III of the adoption process are now available for public review in the Educational Services Department at the District Office.

The public is also invited to the publisher's presentation scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st and Wednesday, March 2nd.

Science: Phase III

The Educator Evaluation Committee attends in-person meetings scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st and Wednesday, March 2nd with the publishers of the recommended textbooks. The committee will then evaluate vendor materials and submit their recommendation for adoption via Canvas for final recommendation by the Steering Committee.

Science: Phase II

The Educator Evaluation Committee reviews and evaluates materials submitted for adoption through Canvas and the Phase II Rubric (click here to view). This process includes the opportunity for the Educator Evaluation Committee to review printed materials at the District Office.

Science: Phase I

The steering committee ensures that the adoption process is carried out appropriately and affirms the evaluation committee’s findings. The steering committee members are not expected to evaluate the products.  The primary purpose of the steering committee is to ensure that all procurement procedures are followed correctly.

Steering committee members are expected to attend each steering committee meeting.

Adoption Overview

To purchase a large amount of resources, school districts must engage in an adoption request for proposal (RFP) where the local education agency (LEA) submits a request for vendors to propose their product for evaluation.
