Thank you for your interest in joining the committee! The committee members have been selected.
📢 ELA Adoption: 60-Day Public Review
We launched this adoption due to HMH no longer supporting Journeys and renewing their paperwork with the Arizona Department of Education per the requirements of Move on When Reading. This left us out our K-5 curriculum unapproved for the 2026-2027 school year. We opted to go out for K-12 for continuity and alignment of materials, instructional practices, and standards.
Given the projected costs of the recommended materials and HUSD’s failed override, we needed to amend our adoption scope. We are moving forward with a K-3 Comprehensive Core Phonics and a K-5 Comprehensive Core ELA adoption to ensure we comply with the law (A.R.S. 15-704, A.R.S. 15-211, HB2026, A.R.S. 15-701).
Grades 6-12 materials do not currently face the same strict regulatory and curriculum approval requirements as the elementary grades, allowing us the necessary flexibility to reduce the scope without immediate compliance risk at the secondary level. Therefore, grades 6-12 will continue to use Collections from HMH and may select resources from our Approved Supplemental Materials and Approved Novels lists.
The District Steering Committee and the District Review Committee have submitted their recommendations after reviewing each vendor submission for our new English Language Arts materials. These materials were submitted to the Governing Board on December 9, 2025 for the First Read.
In accordance with A.R.S. 15-721, we will host a 60-Day Public Review period, allowing staff, parents/guardians, and HUSD community members to review and provide feedback on the recommended materials. The review will run from December 10, 2025 – February 10, 2026.
Please refer to the schedule for the dates and times the HUSD Board Room will be open for you to review the recommended materials. We have built in time in the evenings and during Winter Break to accommodate busy schedules.
HUSD values your input as we work to ensure a transparent, community-involved process and select the highest quality curriculum with integrity.
