Dear Bridges Parents and Community Members,
I want to take a moment to thank everyone for a smooth start to the second quarter. It has been wonderful to see so many refreshed and smiling faces this past week.
As we start our journey into another quarter, I want to highlight the fact that Bridges Elementary School has been named an “A” school for the second straight year due to our performance on the 2018 AzMERIT Assessments. Additionally, our rating percentage has climbed 3% from our first year, from 93% to 96% respectively. You, your children, our teachers (who I believe are some of the best in the state), and our community made this distinguished award possible, as this is truly indicative of all the hard work and perseverance that went into last school year. There are very few schools in the state with a rating this high, and as a result, we all should be extremely proud of this notable accomplishment.
Simon Sinek is one of my favorite authors, as his work in “Start with Why” has driven much of what we do at Bridges. Through studying his ideas, we’ve defined our school’s “Why?” as believing in equipping our students with the skills they need to be successful in the ever-changing 21st century workplace. Our “Why?” acts as a filter for everything that we do. Additionally, some of Sinek’s new work includes the “Infinite Game.” The “Infinite Game” is similar to growth mindset in the sense that there is always room for improvement, and potential is truly uncapped, or infinite! At the beginning of the school year we discussed this concept with our staff, and as a result we are focused on improving every aspect of what we do each and every day. You would be hard-pressed to find a staff that is this dedicated to ensuring our students are receiving a top-notch education. With that, I fully anticipate our letter grade percentage to continue to climb steadily, not because our focus is the letter grade, but as a byproduct of working to increase our effectiveness within the details of what we do day in and day out.
Our Future-Focused Friday series is growing by one, as we are implementing our first annual “Improve Our World Summit” in May. As educators, we believe it is our duty to foster creativity, promote skilled collaboration, and give students the ability to solve real-world problems. As a result, our students and teachers have accepted the challenge for improving our world through utilizing Project-Based Learning, and look forward to sharing our products with parents, district personnel, business partners and community members. The 1st Annual Bridges Elementary School “Improve Our World Summit” will join the Arizona Science Center school take over, the STEAM professional take over, and our 3rd Annual STEAM Night, as the 4th addition to our Future-Focused Friday series. We are so excited about this addition to the Future-Focused Friday events, and look forward to watching our students grow through this process.
Finally, I would like to recognize our PTO for all of the support they have offered for our outstanding, hard-working teachers. Our third annual Fall Festival (organized and sponsored by the PTO) is this Friday, October 26th, from 6pm to 9pm and I would like to encourage everyone to attend. It will be a blast!
Thank you all for your continued support throughout this year. We are looking forward to another quarter filled with student growth, community growth, and academic success!
