Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. James Tomberlin
I am originally from southern California and moved to Arizona in 2003. I graduated from ASU with a bachelor's degree in Special Education and am in progress of completing a Masters degree in Educational Leadership with NAU. I was introduced to my amazing wife, Deborah, by a teacher I was interning with during my program at ASU and we were married in 2010, after I graduated. I also have a 24 year old son, Nathaniel, who graduated from Higley High School and is obsessed with his car as young people often are.
I love baseball, and specifically the St. Louis Cardinals. My wife, who tolerates my obsession by often watching games with me and listening to my rants, has become quite a Cardinals fan and also attends games with me whenever they are in Phoenix. We made our first trip to St. Louis in 2017 when we attended games daily, visited the Cardinals Hall of Fame, visited the Gateway Arch as well as sampled local foods. This past January, I was lucky enough to be able to visit St. Louis again and attend the annual Cardinals fundraiser, Winter Warm-up, and was able to have about 30 baseballs signed by many players and coaches, past and present.
I am entering my eighth year of teaching, all of which have been in HUSD schools. I started my teaching career at Centennial, working with 5-8 grade students, where I taught for three years at which point the district opened the two middle schools and I transfered to Sossaman Middleschool. I taught 7th grade there for 1 year and then transfered to Higley High School where I was the Special Education Department Chair for two years and also worked with students. I left HUSD to accept an administrative position with another organization and then two years ago returned to Centennial.
I am very excited to be working with Mrs. Lowrey to service our fifth and sixth grade students and look forward to meeting you all!
