The Higley Unified School District uses the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to assess for academic giftedness in elementary aged children. Students are tested in three areas: Quantitative (Math), Verbal (Reading), and Nonverbal (General Intelligence and Problem-Solving).
All second grade students will be tested in the spring using an online cognitve assessment. If you would like to request testing for a third through sixth grade student, please contact your child's classroom teacher or email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are three testing periods every school year: August, November and January. Testing dates will be announced at the beginning of the school year. Students must score at the 95th percentile or above in the verbal or quantitative tests to be eligible for the Gifted and Talented Education Program.
If your child qualifies for gifted education, services will begin right away. Please visit HUSD's Gifted Education webpage for more information.
