Classroom Procedures Miss. Davis’ Second GradeCommunication
Student agendas, my webpage, notes, and e-mail are all forms of communication to keep you updated on what is happening at school with your child. E-mail or notes are the easiest way to communicate with me. I will always return messages as promptly as possible. I am also happy to set appointments with you as necessary. Our class webpage is www.husd.org/Domain/3367. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.Student Agendas
The agenda is used daily to communicate student behavior and to inform you of what we are learning in class. Students will also write the weekly homework assignments in the agenda. Parents need to check the agenda each night and initial that they have checked it.Attendance
It is very important that your child is in school each day to avoid missing crucial material. If an absence is unavoidable, please be sure to call the attendance line at 480-279-7812 as soon as possible. I will send home all work to be made up when your child returns.
If your child is going home in a different way than usual, I MUST have it in writing. I cannot allow your child to go home with a friend or another person without a note. This rule helps ensure that your child gets to their destination safely.Morning Lineup
The gates will open at 7:45. Students may enter and play on the playground until the bell rings at 8:06. Our class lines up in front of the 300 building by the number thirteen (13). I will walk the class in when the bell rings.Homework
A homework packet will be sent home each Monday. It will be due that Friday. Homework will usually consist of spelling practice, math practice, comprehension practice, writing, and grammar practice. Occasionally, I will send home additional assignments. There will also be several book reports throughout the year.Lunch Procedures
Sodexo Food Services is the name of our food services company. Meal prices are $2.55 for children. Please identify all payments with your child’s name and student id number. Menus can be sent home upon request. Please label all lunch boxes, lunch bags, water bottles, etc. Second grade lunch is at 11:30-12:00. Students will go out to recess first and then eat lunch.Superhero Student
Each child will have the opportunity to be the Star Student for a week. This is a wonderful opportunity for the class and the teacher to get to know each other better. The student of the week is able to make a poster and share pictures, interests and hobbies with the class. You will be notified the week prior when your child will be the Star Student. Every student will have an opportunity throughout the school year.Recess/Snack
We do have a daily second grade recess scheduled. Please apply sunscreen every morning, and send your child with a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water to drink. If the weather is too hot, we will have indoor recess. Please label everything with your child’s name.
We will be having snack in the afternoons. Please feel free to send a healthy snack for your child to eat. Our classroom is a peanut free class. Please do not send candy, cookies, chips or other sugary foods.Birthdays
Children love to share and celebrate their birthdays at school. Due to strict food regulations, birthday treats must be store-bought only. Or, if you’d like another way to celebrate, your child could donate a book or game to the classroom. A dedication will be noted on this “gift”. It is a wonderful way to have a lasting memory of your child’s special day. Please make arrangements with me in advance so that I can reserve time in our busy schedule. Our Specials Schedule (9:08-9:53)
