• I hope you are having a great summer break!  I am looking forward to a great year of band in the 2017-2018 school year.  This will be my fourth year here in the Higley School District teaching 5th and 6th grade band.

    About the bands

5th grade band is our beginning band - no experience is necessary.  Students will learn everything they need to know about how to play their instruments during class, which meets 3 times per week.

6th grade band is comprised of both beginners and students with 1 year of experience. In this class we review the basics from year one and move on to the next level of musical skills preparing them for middle school band.

Feel free to email any questions you have at Alexander.rivera@husd.org!  I can‘t wait to work with your student this upcoming year!

    About the Teacher

My name is Alexander Rivera and I am the band director at Cortina Elementary, Centennial Elementary, and San Tan Elementary.

    Performance and Education Background:

I am a native to Arizona and received my Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The University of Arizona.  While at The University of Arizona I performed in various groups and on multiple instruments including tuba, trombone, euphonium, and steel drums.  Being in these groups led to performances all over the Southwest and parts of Europe as an ensemble member and soloist.  During this next year I will spent time coaching the Higley/Williams Field High School marching band brass section during their 2017 marching season.  Throughout the year I teach private lessons and master classes to brass students from all levels. This will be my forth year teaching in the Higley district, and I am very excited to get to know all of my students and their parents.
