  • HYSL basketball registration opens
     
    Sign up today for the third quarter of Higley Youth Sports League – boys and girls basketball. The program is open to students in fifth and sixth grade.

    Practices will be held after school at students' home campuses. Practices and games will begin the week of January 23.

    All registration must be completed online. The season will start after winter break. Cost: $50. Uniforms are loaned to students.

    The Higley Youth Sports League is designed to create an atmosphere of support and shared responsibility so that each and every student athlete will benefit by creating a tremendous mental scrapbook of memories from sports participation.

  • Sossaman Middle School to welcome incoming 7th grader families

    At Sossaman Middle School, we believe success starts with making connections long before your son or daughter begin academic instruction.  As your child begins the transition from elementary to middle school, we extend an invitation for you to visit our campus on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 beginning at 5:00 p.m.

    This open house, coupled with an informational session from staff and students, will outline upcoming course registrations, discuss our curriculum, and share the campus philosophy of Respect and Accountability.

    Tours will be student led by our National Junior Honor Society and Student Council representatives, providing valuable insight into what it's like to be a Sossaman Spartan.

    Presentations - including a Q&A panel - will begin at both 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., with school tours happening simultaneously.  Parents and students alike are encouraged to attend as we set the stage for a successful 2017-2018 school year.

  • Parents of 2017/18 7-12th graders

    Students who will be in middle school and high school during the 2017-18 school year will make course selections online in January. Parents and guardians need to be sure they have a ParentVue account to help with this new process. ParentVue also allows families to see student grades and attendance information.

    To obtain a ParentVue account, call your school office when they reopen on Jan. 9, after winter break.

  •  HUSD Food Service Announcement

    Beginning January 9, students without sufficient funds in their meal accounts to pay for a meal may be given a USDA approved alternative meal instead of the regular hot lunch. 

    Please check your student’s balance and make a deposit if needed at www.mymealtime.com

    You may also send a check or cash in an envelope to your elementary or middle school office, or to the café with your high school student.

  • Higley Academic Blitz

    Current and incoming high school and middle school students and their families are invited to learn about the many options available in Higley Unified School District to help prepare them for future college and career choices during Higley's Academic Blitz.

    The event will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at Williams Field High School, 2076 S. Higley Road, Gilbert. It is open to all area students.

    Workshops topics include: AP Classes (HHS & WFHS offer nearly 20 class titles), Dual Enrollment Classes (HHS & WFHS offer dozens of class titles), Career & Technical Education Programs, College Entrance Processes, Middle and High School Transition, Middle School Elective Options, Junior ROTC and more.

  • Bridges named AZ STEM School of Community Practice
     
    Higley Unified School District’s newest elementary school has been named an AZ STEM School Community of Practice.

    Bridges Elementary School joins 56 schools from across the state to collaborate with Maricopa Education Service Agency, Arizona  SciTech, Intel and the Arizona Science Center.

    “This is an amazing opportunity for our school community to learn from other innovative schools within the state. Many collaborative opportunities are planned throughout this next school year that will certainly put us on the road to excellence in terms of STEM,” Bridges Principal Sherry Richards said.
     
    STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

  • Higley Program for Accelerated Learning launches

    Bridges Elementary School is home to the Higley Program for Accelerated Learning, open to students in grades 3-6 in 2016-17.

    Administrators and teachers designed this program to meet the needs of Higley’s high achieving, highly motivated students. It is open to students in grades 3 through 6 during the 2016-17 school year. The Higley Program for Accelerated Learning prepares students for honors classes in middle school, and AP and dual credit classes in high school.

About Bridges

Bridges Elementary School will open for the 2016/17 school year. It will be a neighborhood campus for students in kindergarten through sixth-grade. Bridges Elementary will offer all programs and classes currently available at all Higley elementary schools, including:

• Kids Club, a morning- and after-school care program offered through Community Education;
• Higley Youth Sports League, an after-school athletics program offered through Community Education;
• Elementary school band, library, physical education and arts programs.

Bridges students also will have the option to join the morning orchestra program for elementary school students at Sossaman Middle School, and additional clubs formed based on student interest.

Teachers and students at Bridges Elementary School will have access to cutting-edge educational technology, such as interactive white boards, computer labs, a science lab, and document cameras. The school design includes a full gymnasium and cafeteria, in addition to music, band and art rooms.
