8th Grade Celebration
As we approach the end of the school year, we begin to plan the next step in your student’s academic path. This is a significant time, as they will take on more responsibility and greater challenges in the years ahead. We have observed your child’s repeated exhibition of strength, determination, and success in the classroom and we look forward to the wonderful things that await them as they continue to pursue their academic journey. Our students’ capacity to exceed expectations and make a definitive mark on our community fills me with optimism about their future.
We are eager to celebrate this milestone. After reviewing data from our parent surveys, meeting with groups from each site, and discussing with the Higley Unified School District, we have created a plan for our 8th grade promotion for this school year and beyond. We want to stay true to the model of celebrating students and their successes and truly valuing the accomplishments of our Sossaman Spartans. In doing so, we have decided that a two part plan of celebrating 8th grade promotion will be put into place.
Please be aware that students failing ANY class, has excessive absences, and/or are suspended April 1st through May 26th, may not be permitted to participate in either celebration. Also, all outstanding fines must be paid with the return of iPad, charger, and cord noted in media center.
First: Awards Celebration
Students and their families will be honoring student achievement, distributing yearly awards, and establishing new traditions as we host our first evening of Academic and Extra-Curricular Excellence on Friday, May 19th at 6:00 p.m. As we expect, many of our students and families will join us in celebration. Please note if your son or daughter is recognized an invitation will be mailed home at a later date.
Second: Promotion Celebration
All students in good academic and behavioral standing will be invited to Fat Cats in Gilbert on May 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will have a cost of $20.00. Permission slips will be sent home at a later date. Students will spend their final days as Spartans amongst classmates in friendly competition enjoying games, food, and comradery. Transportation will be provided by bus to and from Fat Cats. No students will be allowed to be dropped off or picked up from there. Upon their return to campus, a slideshow will be available for viewing capturing memories from this past year.

Reminder regarding drop-off of items
In an effort to prepare students for life beyond Sossaman, we encourage you to assist organizing them the night before for the day ahead to help eliminate items being dropped off. We do, however, allow the following:
• Medically needed items requested by the nurse or your doctor, and
• Items too large for the bus or too heavy for your child to carry.
To help effectively monitor the level of your child’s academic progress, the Higley Unified School District provides a parent portal known as ParentVue. This detailed system grants you the opportunity to quickly and conveniently access grades, class schedules, attendance histories, assignment information, and other student information including messages from teachers. It is also designed to increase communication between schools and their families with our end goal of student success.
Student Pickup Policy
Just as a reminder, per district policy, you should have a valid ID ready to show the front office for identification verification when picking up your child.
