  • Attention 5th Grade Students and Parents

There is an error on all 5th Grade postcards that were sent out stating welcome to Fourth Grade, please disregard. The teacher listed on the post card will in fact be your 5th grade homeroom teacher. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. • Higley Board approves elementary school early release Wednesdays

The Higley Unified School District governing board voted 5-0 on May 27 to approve an early release (1 p.m.) every Wednesday at elementary schools to allow time for teacher instructional planning. The new schedule will begin the first week of classes. The first day of school is July 27, 2015.

The plan was recommended to the governing board to return planning time to teachers that has been lost over the last few years.

Parents who would like after-school care may register for the Community Education Department’s Kids Club program, available at all elementary schools on early release days for $20. Care is available 1 to 6 p.m. Information and registration is on the Community Education website or by calling (480) 279-7055.

Middle schools and high schools will continue with early release/professional development days already scheduled. Please see the district’s calendar for more information.

Thank you for your patience as we move to this new schedule.

  • Mandarin Immersion Program Update

Coronado Elementary School is accepting  students in kindergarten, first and second-grade for its Mandarin Choice Program for the 2015/16 school year.

Students in the Mandarin Immersion program will receive instruction in both Mandarin and English during their school day. Math and science are taught by a native Mandarin speaker. Language arts and social studies are taught by an English-speaking teacher. The students also participate in all other programs at Coronado, including physical education, the arts, after-school options and more.

Language immersion programs are the fastest growing educational segment for language acquisition. Coronado Principal Dr. Mai-Lon Wong successfully launched Arizona’s first Mandarin Immersion program in her prior school district.

Parents and families can learn more about the program during upcoming meetings at Coronado, 4333 S. DeAnza Blvd., Gilbert. A list of upcoming meetings can be found at www.husd.org/mandarin.

  • Parentvue

Parents can see student grades and attendance records through a system called “ParentVue.” Teachers post assignments and grades, along with daily attendance, on the system that can then be viewed by parents through a home computer or cell phone. Teachers post links to ParentVue (sometimes referred to as "Online grades") through their teacher webpages. You can also reach ParentVue through this link.

To use ParentVue, parents need a personal code created by their student’s school. Please visit your school office for more information.
