  • Higley Board approves elementary school early release Wednesdays

The Higley Unified School District governing board voted 5-0 on May 27 to approve an early release (1 p.m.) every Wednesday at elementary schools to allow time for teacher instructional planning. The new schedule will begin the first week of classes. The first day of school is July 27, 2015.

The plan was recommended to the governing board to return planning time to teachers that has been lost over the last few years.

Parents who would like after-school care may register for the Community Education Department’s Kids Club program, available at all elementary schools on early release days for $20. Care is available 1 to 6 p.m. Information and registration is on the Community Education website or by calling (480) 279-7055.

Middle schools and high schools will continue with early release/professional development days already scheduled. Please see the district’s calendar for more information.

Thank you for your patience as we move to this new schedule.

  • Board follows federal mandate to raise lunch price 10 cents

The Higley Unified School District Governing Board complied with the federal requirements requiring a raise of 10-cent increase to elementary, middle and high school lunch prices beginning in July 2015 with the new school year.

The price rate increases are required to follow the federal standard known as the “paid lunch equity requirement.” To meet the requirement that the district’s average paid lunch price be less than the difference between the free and paid federal reimbursement rates, a district must either raise lunch prices or subsidize meals through the use of nonfederal funds. This mandate is in place for at least the new two school years.

This change amounts to the following lunch prices for the 2015/16 school year:
    Elementary and preschool: $2.55
    Middle school: $2.90
    High School: $3.05

  • Parentvue

Parents can see student grades and attendance records through a system called “ParentVue.” Teachers post assignments and grades, along with daily attendance, on the system that can then be viewed by parents through a home computer or cell phone. Teachers post links to ParentVue (sometimes referred to as "Online grades") through their teacher webpages. You can also reach ParentVue through this link.

To use ParentVue, parents need a personal code created by their student’s school. Please visit your school office for more information.
