District to offer Mandarin Immersion preschool
The Higley Unified School District will offer a Mandarin Immersion preschool class for the 2016-17 school year at Cooley Early Childhood Development Center, 1100 S. Recker Road, Gilbert. The program would be open to Kinder Prep/preschool students who would be enrolling in kindergarten the following school year (2017-18). Like the Mandarin Immersion program at Coronado Elementary School, the class would be co-taught by two teachers, including one who is a native Mandarin speaker and one who teaches in English.
Studies have found that students who begin learning a second language at a younger age develop stronger language skills, as well as have an easier time in language acquisition of both English and the second language.
If you are interested in learning more about this program, please complete the interest form.
