February 24 - “Peter and the Wolf”
Performed by Symphony of the Southwest
Narrated by Ms. Joanie Flatt
In 1936, Sergei Prokofiev was commissioned by the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow to write a new musical symphony for children. The intent was to cultivate “musical tastes in children form the first years of school.” He could scarcely have foreseen quite how successful his playful classic would become or how consistently it would delight and inspire children and adults for years to come. The students who attended last year’s concerts at the HCPA were delighted and proved this statement to be true. Visit philtulga.com for a synopsis, audio clips and other helpful information.
