Middle School Programs

Higley’s two middle schools – Cooley and Sossaman - opened in 2013. Both are state-of-the-art facilities, with educational communities focused on building a strong foundation for each student’s secondary education. Both offer focused, intentional curriculum designed so that students connect with their learning and become vested stakeholders in their education.

Shortly after opening, Cooley and Sossaman were noted by the state Department of Education for their academic success.

In addition, both schools offer a number of student activities, including robotics clubs, color guard, National Junior Honor Society and more. The middle schools also offer a full spectrum of athletics and compete in the East Valley Conference.

Campus tours are available. Contact the school for information.
Open enrollment is accepted year-round, with priority given to families that submit an application by Feb. 1.

1-to-1 Technology
Students at Cooley and Sossaman Middle School are all assigned an iPad to be used in the classroom and at home for studies. This allows teachers to provide up-to-date information in their lessons, as well as provide learning resources for students.

Foreign Language Options
More than 70 percent of our middle school students enroll in a foreign language. Both Spanish and Mandarin are offered. By enrolling in these classes during middle school, students are able to better prepare for advanced foreign language courses in high school. They may also receive high school credit during their middle school years.
