Mr. Sharp grew up in Calgary, Canada where he played the trumpet, tuba, and euphonium in school. He was also a member of the Calgary Stampede Marching Show Band, which is sponsored by the world famous Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. As a member of the Stampede Band he was able to perform locally and abroad, including Japan, Germany, Holland, France, and England, where he was able to perform for Prince Andrew at Buckingham Palace.
He started his college career at Ricks College, now BYU-Idaho, where he played trumpet in the Symphonic Band, jazz band, chamber brass ensemble, and pep band. After graduating there he went to the University of Idaho to finish his undergraduate degree. While there he played trumpet in the pep band, jazz band, Symphonic Band, and marching band, which also included one year playing percussion. He did his student teaching at McClintock High School in Tempe, which was his first time to Arizona.
After graduating he taught band in grades 6 through 12 in Preston, Idaho. After three years of teaching he moved to Nevada, to attend the University of Nevada, Reno, and earn a Masters Degree in music education. While going to school in Reno he worked with the concert and athletic bands at the university, and taught class brass for all music education students. He also played in the Wind Ensemble, a brass quintet, and the Reno Wind Symphony.
Since moving to Arizona he has played locally with the Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble, East Valley Mormon Choral Organization, and the CGCC concert band. Currently Mr. Sharp performs with the East Valley Brass Quintet. Mr. Sharp started teaching at Higley High in 2007.
