On January 26th the 3rd graders from Chaparral Elementary took a field trip to Veterans Oasis Park. The park was a perfect place to explore and learn about 3rd grade state standards first hand. Mr. Schroeder worked with several people including Dr. Mo from ASU in order to put this field trip together. The students had first hand experiences with birds, prairie dogs, and owls. One of the highlights was to actually use binoculars and explore through observing these animals in their own habitats. The 3rd graders observed and were involved in a project where they learned about the flow of water from the mountain ranges, and how climate and seasons affect how Arizona gains its water in the hot temperatures in the summer. They learned about how to keep Arizona’s water clean and how it is a valuable resource in our state. Students became a human sundial in which they used their own body to be able to tell what time it is at the park.
