Centennial Elementary Celebrates Earth Day
On Thursday, April 22, the 8th grade students of Centennial Elementary planted a tree to celebrate Earth Day. They dedicated the tree to the first graduating class of Centennial K-8. Allysha Tanner, an 8th grade student at Centennial who was also born on Earth Day, started this project with the principal, Mrs. Ybarra. Allysha would like to thank those people for supporting her efforts: Mr. Bob Mileham, Director of Maintenance & Operations, for helping to have the grounds prepared, water lines available and approval for the tree; Mrs. Debbie Ybarra, principal and Mr. Hugo Hernandez, assistant principal for coordinating this event for their campus; Nikki Rezek, a manager at The Home Depot on Power and Germann who graciously donated the tree; and two Higley High School seniors Dan Rennie and Glenn Simotti who came to help dig the hole and assist in planting. All of the 7th and 8th grade students attended the dedication ceremony and watched the tree being planted.
